Our Church was organized in the mid 1850’s. Prior, it was thought the Church met for a number of years in a school house. From records preserved by late Judge J. A. Carnley, it was learned that January 5, 1871 Jane B. Eaves granted one acre of land to Z. Blackman and J. W. Bowden as trustees of Bethlehem Church building site.
Victoria Baptist Church is located about 12 miles north of Elba on State Highway 125 at County Road 210. Until 1967 it was known as Bethlehem Baptist Church.
In January of 1967 the Church voted to change the name because there were two other Churches in the Elba area with the same name. The new name, Victoria Baptist Church was adopted in conjunction with the community area served, Victoria..
Information is not available regarding the type building utilized as the first Church. Late in the last century, a new building was erected under the supervision of Pinekney Martin, Sr. Many years later this building was torn down and rebuilt under the supervision of A. V. Martin, son of the former builder and was remodeled several times.
In 1944 Sanders A. Williams presented the Church with new pews in memory of his parents. Doctor and Mrs. E. G. Bragg gave a new pulpit stand with matching chairs. Additional class rooms were added in 1954. The pastorium was bought in 1974. In 1981 new cushioned pews were installed.
In 1989 the NEW Victoria Baptist Church was designed and constructed which consists of a new sanctuary and fellowship hall. We were very happy that Church services began in the new facilities early 1990."
